Iolite (Cordierite)
A beautiful twilight-colored, a unique violet-blue. A bridge to the past, a symbol of exploration, and a statement of individuality.

You may also know it by another name – Cordierite. It has a quiet kind of magic: as the light shifts and the stone is viewed from different angles, its color seems to change. Sometimes it appears deep violet-blue, then softens to a gentle sky blue, and at certain angles it may even reveal a hint of warm yellow. Because of this fascinating play of color, the stone was once called “Dichroite,” a name from ancient Greek meaning “two-colored stone.”
Iolite also carries a story from the age of the Vikings. According to the history, Viking sailors used thin pieces of it as a natural compass. Even on cloudy days when the sun was hidden, the stone could help them detect the sun’s position, guiding their ships across vast northern seas. For this reason, it is sometimes remembered as the “Viking’s compass.”

Perfect for You
In crystal world, iolite is often associated with insight and inner discovery. Many believe it gently encourages reflection, helping people look inward and gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
Like a quiet guide, it invites us to follow our own inner path and trust the direction it reveals. Because of its balanced and harmonious energy, it is also known to work beautifully alongside many other stones, complementing whatever intention or journey a person may be exploring.
